Introduction Since its inception in 1999, The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor research project has consistently shown that women have lower entrepreneurial activity rates than men (Acs et al., 2005; Minniti, Arenius and Langowitz, 2005). Although the United States has the highest level of entrepreneurial activity among G7 and First World countries, 2003 US data continue to show a gap in start-up activity by women (Minniti and Bygrave, 2004). Delmar and Davidsson confirm a significant and systematic difference in new business creation by men versus women (2000).
